Making Your Art Uniquely Your Own
As Artists we all have our own journey. Our journey is marked as our own because each of us have had an accumulation of our very own experiences as well as our own interpretation of those experiences. For example, even though we may have had a similar experience with others, such as a shared workshop in which we hear the same information, because of our past experiences, we will interpret the information in different ways. Which will then be applied to our art differently than that of another artist.
This is what gives each of us our very own unique look. Yes we all need to know the basics and the importance of those basics, but beyond that, it is up to us to determine what works for us as the creator of our work. I think it would become very boring and uninspiring if we all had the need to or were made to feel that there was a specific right or wrong to how we should be making our art.
With that being said, if you know and understand the concept behind the basics, don’t worry about a limited palette, full palette, on location or not, the use photographs or not, or even what color your palette should be, in the end I don’t think it really matters unless your intent is for your work to look like that of another artists work. There are so many different ways in which to create art in which neither are right or wrong. Be inspired by your own experiences and honor your interpretation of those experiences. This is what will give you your very own look and direction. It is what makes your work uniquely yours.
