Thumbnail studies for two possible compositions for paintings of the midwest landscape. This moment in time was an evening walk on our property as the sun began to set. Spring in the midwest is know for it's unexpected snow fall. It's to be expected!
In these small studies, I am working out movement, shapes and values in the landscape.

I do enjoy and study from artists that inspire me by working up small thumbnails of the pieces that inspire me. I also collect images of the pieces I love and put them into organized folders that I can go back to and find them again at any time.
Artist Isaac Ilyich Levitan
Creates a lot of movement within the landscape. Colors are intense and subtle at the same time. Mark making creates movement and direction. Colors vibrate with life, movement. He creates an atmosphere through color and value. From four of Levitian's works, I created thumbnail sketches of each piece.
"Isaac Ilyich Levitan was a Russian landscape painter who advanced the genre of the "mood landscape". Wikipedia
The four paintings below are by artist Isaac Ilyich Levitan.

The next set of drawing studies were created from a video app contained within a mentor study course in which you could move the skeleton around to get different view points, which was a lot of fun to work from. The last sketch on this page was of my sturdy, well build Dissa from one of my photos of her.
