The development of a compositional idea
The development of a compositional idea

A view of Pikes Peak while in Colorado visiting family. We can find the beauty in Nature through the shapes, color, textures and atmosphere that she provides us.

It may not look like much now but this is one way to approach putting a compositional idea into becoming a painting.  The shapes and direction of the landscape are drawn out onto a canvas in vine charcoal which is a very flexible and movable medium allowing for changes to be made easily before applying paint. The idea began with a daily visual of the landscape for a good week before I choose to put it into a composition . I so enjoyed watching the changes in atmosphere, light and color on any given day or time of day. Many different paintings could be created on this location and each one would be very different. To be continued...
